A Season of Learning: Fall Teen Mental Health First Aid Impact Story

This fall has been one of our most meaningful teaching seasons yet—filled with open conversations, important skills, and powerful moments of connection. Between September and early December, our team brought six-session Teen Mental Health First Aid courses to three different grade levels, reaching over 130 students across the region.

We launched the season in September and October with 31 Onaga High School freshmen, led by instructors Christine Merriman and Angie Sauvage. Their compassion and energy helped students feel comfortable discussing mental health and how to support their peers.

In October and November, Christine and Angie returned to Onaga High School to teach 26 seniors, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to recognize warning signs and take action when a friend may be struggling.

At Holton High School, instructors Brenda Quigley and Manda Thompson delivered Teen Mental Health First Aid to three senior classes totaling 59 students. Their sessions encouraged students to ask questions, share experiences, and build real-life skills they can carry with them long after graduation.

We closed out the fall at Frankfort High School, where Brenda and Manda taught 20 sophomores from November through December 8th. Students were highly engaged, and many shared that the course helped them better understand how to support themselves and others.

All together, this season’s Teen Mental Health First Aid outreach reached 136 students, each participating in six interactive, meaningful sessions.

And we’re just getting started—
In January, we’ll bring Teen Mental Health First Aid to Sophomores at Centralia High School, and in February, we’ll return to Holton High School to teach Juniors.

If you’d like more information about our Teen Mental Health First Aid program or how to bring it to your school, we would be happy to share more!
