Helping Patients Navigate Medicare Open Enrollment

Helping Patients Navigate Medicare Open Enrollment

Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, and it’s an important time for many of our patients and community members to review their health coverage for the coming year.

Choosing between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage can be confusing. Original Medicare is accepted by most providers and doesn’t usually require prior authorizations for services. Medicare Advantage plans, offered by private insurers, may include added benefits such as dental or vision coverage, but they often have smaller provider networks and more approval requirements for certain services and prescriptions.

“As a pharmacist, I always encourage patients to take a close look at their prescription coverage and ask questions before making changes,” said Hali Brown, PharmD. “The right plan helps ensure patients have access to the medications and care they need.”

Our teams across CHCS can play an important role by helping patients find trusted resources and encouraging them to review their options carefully. Thank you for continuing to support our patients as they make these important healthcare decisions.

As a reminder, Meranda Schmitz, RN is our certified  Senior Health Insurance Counselor for Kansans (SHICK).  If you know someone who may benefit from Meranda’s expertise, she can be contacted at 785-889-5502 or [email protected].
