CHCS Birth Center Achieves Gold Level Status

CHCS Birth Center Achieves Gold Level Status

The Birth Center at Community HealthCare System (CHCS) has been awarded Gold Level status by the Kansas Perinatal Quality Collaborative’s Fourth Trimester Initiative. The Fourth Trimester Initiative is an innovative approach to studying and improving the birthing experience for mothers and families across the State through targeted goals and actions.

By achieving this Gold Level Status, the CHCS Birth Center staff participated in a 3-year program and developed best practices for standardized screenings for childbearing-aged women, identifying each mother’s Postpartum Care Team, developing personalized care plans for each mom, creating educational plans on reproductive health planning, addressing social detriments of health and health equity, and establishing ongoing insurance coverage.

“Our involvement in this initiative has allowed us to partner with other participating facilities to learn new and best practices to assist moms and families in the months after delivery,” said Katie Kufahl, OB Manager at CHCS. “Studies have shown the majority of maternal deaths occur immediately after birth to 12 months past. Through this training, we have established a quality program specifically targeted to postpartum care,” said Kufahl.

Mindy Olberding, CHCS Chief Nursing Officer said, “Katie is always seeking ways to improve health outcome for our OB patients. Our involvement in this initiative is just one more way we improve the quality of care we provide through enhanced best practices and additional resources for new moms and their families.”
